We shut down FreeDarko today, and it has been a way more exhausting, and emotional, day than I had anticipated. I spilled my real guts late in this “WTF was this site anyway?” post, but wanted to share this prized FD artifact with the world one more time. It’s one of my original sketches for the Style Guides that were such a prominent feature of The Macrophenomenal Pro Basketball Almanac. Working in the very loud, very clunky medium of Tux Paint, I did a screen’s worth of style icons; a diagram of Dwyane Wade driving to the basket; and this, a team version for the Suns. Raja Bell is the swastika. This is one of those moments where I wonder if any of this really happened.
